About Us Edward Morgan and Daniel Scott established The MorganScott Ballet as a vehicle for creating and presenting their own original ballets that run the gamut of dance styles, from classical to jazz. Morgan and Scott aim to maintain the standards of excellence and the artistic refinement typically associated with classical ballet, whether a ballet is stylized as classical, neoclassical, contemporary or jazz. They create their ballets with the express purpose of inspiring and uplifting all types of audiences with works that are accessible, but that serve as more than mere entertainment. They seek, through intimate, live performances, to stimulate audience members to transcend the mundane; to rekindle the viewers' sense of wonder, beauty, joy and imagination. In the larger picture, they hope to encourage the revitalization of American ballet with their own personal esthetic; one that is a natural expression of their time and place in American culture; one that speaks to audiences today. The Repertoire All of the ballets in the MorganScott repertoire are original works conceived by Morgan and Scott that use music ranging from Chopin to Ellington & Strayhorn. Their artistic collaboration on the conceptual, musical and design elements of the ballets, and on the planning of programs and events, gives the company its unique personality. Morgan's choreography is the backbone of the repertoire. Regarding Morgan's choreography, Jack Anderson of The New York Times wrote that his "Cheek to Cheek" was "the delight of the evening" and that "he set four couples kicking and gliding with remarkable sophistication." Caitlin Sims, the editor of Dance Teacher and the Managing Editor of Pointe magazine, suggested Morgan's range when she wrote that his "Cheek to Cheek" was "easily accessible and entertaining" and "adaptable to a wide audience", whereas of "Threshold of Passage" she wrote, "The work's complicated choreography included quick weight changes and intricate phrasing." Jennifer Dunning wrote for The New York Times "It is clear from his choreography that Mr. Morgan knows his way around ballet. The performers were swept gently along in lyrical, ground-hugging waves of dance punctuated by high lifts in the group works…Mr. Morgan knows how to make his dancers look good, giving them plenty of delicate flourishes for their lyrical arms and fleeting emotional details that highlight the performers' engaging way of relating to one another on the stage." Janet Guggenheim of Dance and the Arts called Morgan's "Threshold of Passage" "a welcoming ballet" and of his "Cheek to Cheek" she wrote, "buckets of glitter came down and the audience rose to their feet with shouts of 'bravo, bravo'." Professional Background Morgan and Scott directed the Joffrey II Concert Dancers as Artistic Director and Producing Director, respectively. It was their critical and popular success with this group that inspired them to form their own professional company. Morgan has a diverse background including ten years as a principal dancer of The Joffrey Ballet and choreographer of the internationally successful television dance show ClubMTV. In addition to his position as the Artistic Director of the Joffrey II Concert Dancers, he created and directed the Joffrey Ballet School Jazz Program. Scott holds a
