Every Flower Is Not The Same.
Plant another seed in Manhattan, as there are rare and exotic flowers growing and blossoming there, too. Diversity is why Mr. Morgan’s garden stands out in an other wise mundane field of dance.
I first discovered Edward Morgan when I saw a poster in the Bronx for a performance at Hostos Theater for the Performing Arts in 2005, and attended. I was astounded at the level of expression, technique, and pure love of dancing that these children exhibited. It was obvious that Mr. Morgan indeed has a rare gift.
There are many programs in Manhattan that offer free ballet classes to children, because it is the politically correct thing to do. Mr. Morgan comes from a completely different place, almost like a spiritual angel. I was awestruck to often see Mr. Morgan pull money out of his own pocket to meet the needs of the young students, and provide for their personal emergencies and offer sound guidance to these disenfranchised and broken children.
The Manhattan Project is dedicated to working with youth ages 12 - 18 years old in under-served communities. Our goal is to fortify emotional, physical, psychosocial, and artistic growth and development through dance. We are committed to helping each program participant come into confident possession of their innate talent, and establish values that will allow them to grow into responsible adults, and act with compassion, humanity, dignity, and a sense of pride.
In life, not often, rare opportunities cross our paths where we experience an event that transcends us. Mr. Morgan possesses the unique talent to not only uplift the spirit of his audience, but his dancers as well, and for just a little while, we are taken to a place where there is hope, a future, and all’s right with the world.
